Republican political sign for Cassandra Burney Walter Ridgeland Mayor

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you running for Mayor of Ridgeland, Mississippi?

I am running for Mayor of Ridgeland because I think the current city administration has lost their interest in protecting our neighborhoods. I offer Ridgeland voters a choice between a city government that focuses on neighborhoods and homeowners or a city government that focuses on shopping centers and developers. Like so many Ridgeland taxpayers, we moved to our city because it promised to be a great place to own a home, raise a family, and enjoy our neighbors. Over the last four years, though, homes, neighborhoods, and homeowners have been forgotten. That will change if I am elected Mayor.

What about Zoning?

There will be no more special breaks for special friends. Protecting our neighborhoods will be my top priority

What are your transportation concerns?

For years, we have been promised a modern road to connect the east side of our city with the west side; it is time to move dirt and get it done.

What about crime?

For the last four years, the current administration has ignored the growing crime problem in our city. I will commit new resources and new energy to protecting the security of our neighborhoods and families.

Will you listen to me the voter?

There will be no more surprises, no more backroom deals, no more favors for a few commercial developers. Neighborhoods and families will be the priority if I am elected mayor

What is my background?

I have represented a number of homeowners' associations whose interest was to preserve the residential character of their neighborhood. In many cases, we have had to take legal action all the way to the Mississippi Supreme Court in an effort to prevent undesirable commercial re-zoning in or near their neighorhoods. I have learned over the years how to balance the preservation of residential character with the competing demand for commercial development in or near residential areas. The problem is that we no longer have any balance in Ridgeland. Ridgeland is a phenomenal place to live and do business but we are losing our reputation as one of the 100 Best Places to Live because the current city administration is more concerned about developers than homeowners.

I have the experience and the commitment to turn this around and work day and night to protect the integrity of our neighborhoods, while maintaining the capacity to be fair and objective when making decisions regarding commercial development. The position will require a person who possesses the strength of character to consistently make decisions for the good of the community without regard for outside influences. I have the knowledge of law, the experience of advocacy, and the leadership ability to be an effective Mayor. I will bring new energy, fresh perspective, and objectivity in decision making without regard to politics. I am a past president of the Madison County Bar Association and I have served as a youth minister at my church. I am seeking this office so that our taxpayers will have a choice on election day that is more than business as usual.

What can you the voter do for me as a candidate?

I ask for your support in the May 5 Republican Primary for Mayor of Ridgeland. This includes donations for me to continue my campaign as well as your vote. Thank you.
